Interested in importing a vehicle from Japan? We're here to help! For over 3 years, we have worked with a small group of trusted auction members and exporters in Osaka, Japan to source high-quality used vehicles suitable for use in the USA. Contact us with your wishlist or we'll help you decide on the right car.
We will then find your best options and send them to you. You'll have final approval of which vehicle to order. Once payment is received, Maui Kei Vans will file all necessary documents with US Customs and obtain an original vehicle title. Freight from Japan to Honolulu will be arranged. This is the slowest part of the process and may take up to 2 months in total. Upon arrival in Honolulu, your vehicle will be transferred to a barge and arrive in Kahului. Â Once your vehicle is ready, our local coordinator Cyndi will contact you to arrange pickup and sign the title over to you.Â

Japan's keitora or kei class of vehicles are some of the smallest production cars in the world. Built to be durable, efficient, and economical, many drivers outside Japan have also fallen in love with these simple, practical cars. They are perfect for the beach, farming, landscaping, hunting, fishing, camping, and make great daily drivers.
Vans are priced $9,000 - $10,000. Trucks are priced $8,000 - $9,000, except for dump trucks, which are up to $10,000,
Come check out our company van, often seen at the Alahele food truck park in Kihei! For insurance purposes, we aren't able to let customers drive it, but you are welcome to get in, get a feel for the size, and see what it's like to have the driver's seat on the right side.
Yes. Every vehicle we import will have a clean title from the State of Arkansas, where our main business is based. This will easily transfer to a Hawai'i title.
That all depends! There's no such thing as a bad kei van or truck, though. Give us a call or text and we'll talk about what you want to use it for and help figure out which one is the right vehicle for you.
That mostly depends on your driving, but up to 30 miles per gallon is normal with a mix of town and highway driving.
Ethanol-free gasoline is always best. Japanese engines made before 2006 were not designed for compatibility with ethanol. They will run on regular unleaded, but if you use it, we highly recommend using a fuel system cleaner in every other tank. In Kahului, Safeway and Maui Oil Company sell non-ethanol 89 octane fuel. Several other stations sell high octane non-ethanol fuel. The octane rating is not important, as long as it's ethanol free.
All Japanese vehicles are right hand drive. It's not so hard to get used to!
Importing vehicles over 25 years old ensures that they are legal to drive on public roads. Under Federal law, vehicles less than 25 years old can only be imported for off-road use and must be equipped with a governor that limits the speed to 25 MPH.
Very much so. Small Japanese engines have a well-deserved reputation for being built to last, even under mild abuse/neglect (which we do not recommend). Regular care and preventive maintenance (which we high recommended) will keep almost any vehicle running smoothly for as long as you care to own it. The no-frills simplicity of these tiny engines means that there is simply less potential for problems.
The label on the bed says 350 kg, which is about 770 lbs. This is a legal requirement in Japan for tax purposes. However, they can handle up to 1,000 lbs in the bed without any trouble. Some owners with upgraded suspension and brakes report loading nearly 1 ton in the bed. Towing capacity is about 2,000 lbs for 4WD models, slightly more for 2WD.
Yes, we can provide a digital (pdf) copy of service manuals for mini trucks between 1990-1998 model years.
We do not offer in-house financing. Full payment is due at time of order. It may be worth contacting your bank or credit union to inquire about an auto loan for an imported vehicle.
Thank you for your offer, but we do not take trades.
